“Baekje Historic Area” Selected as the Most Anticipated Policy of Seoul Vision 2030 The Seoul Metropolitan Government conducted a poll choosing the most anticipated policy of Seoul Vision 2030, the master plan of the basic directions of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s administrative operation for the next decade, by international voters for 11 days from Nov. 19 to Nov. 29. According to the results, the top anticipated policy among the major projects of Seoul Vision 2030 was “Baekje Historic Areas” (3,477 votes; 7.8%). From the days of Hanseong, the capital of Baekje, to Namgyeong of Goryeo and Hanyang of Joseon, Seoul has been serving as the center of the Korean Peninsula for over 2,000 years. Seoul City plans to establish the Baekje Historic Area, which marks the beginning of Seoul’s 2,000-year history, to not only create a city in which tradition coexists with the present and the future, but also strengthen its identity as a “2,000-year-old historic city.” Also, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will continue its excavation surveys in the Earthen Fortification in Pungnap-dong, Ancient Tombs in Seokchon-dong, and Mongchontoseong Fortress, and run academic conferences and citizen participation programs to educate and promote the historicalness of the sites, thus establishing a foundation for registration of the “Baekje Historic Area” as UNESCO World Heritage. The second-most anticipated policy by international voters was the “Seoul Water Recycling Experience Center,” a plan to build spaces for children’s experiences, play and rest all in one place (3,305 votes; 7.4%). Following “Seoul Water Recycling Experience Center” are “2022 Seoul Festa” as a major tourism festival of Asia, (3,185 votes; 7.1%), “Financial Center of Asia” including the foundation of Seoul Investment Agency (2,663 votes; 6.0%), and “Manual-Based Safe City” which focuses on systematic disaster control by utilizing Industry 4.0 technologies (2,620 votes; 6.0%). In terms of the four great visions of Seoul Vision 2030, “Global Leadership” (33.9%) and “Future Vibes” (31.0%) earned the highest interest among international voters, followed by “Co-prosperity” (19.6%) and “Urban Resilience” (15.5%). This poll was conducted for 30 major city projects for the implementation of Seoul Vision 2030, drawing a total of 6,227 respondents. Each voter was allowed to cast 5 to 10 votes, resulting in a total of 44,711 votes. From this poll, Seoul was able to confirm that many international citizens are highly interested in Seoul Vision 2030, the blueprint for the future of Seoul. Meanwhile, the government plans to expand its policy implementation process centering around the two visions of Global Leadership and Future Vibes, which earned the most votes, and constantly informing of the newly changing Seoul to the world.
